Edgardo Antonio Alfonzo (born November 8, 1973 in Miranda State, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball third baseman who plays with a San Francisco Giants since 2003. Antecedently, Alfonzo played for the New York Mets (1995-2002). He bats & throws perfect handed.
Within the decade-season career, Alfonzo has compiled the .288 batting average with 144 home runs and 696 RBI in 1367 games.
Alfonzo was signed per Mets as a non-draft amateur free agent in 1991 and made his debut in the 1995 season. At the beginning he was a semi-regular fielder, sharing second base, third base and shortstop with several others. Inside 1997 he began regularly around third; from either 1999-2001 he played at 2nd, & come back to third in 2002.
When he has shown ability to hit heater away from the ballpark, Alfonzo is primarily a line cause hitter by owning power to completely fields. He occurs as patient hitter. Despite his injuries, Alfonzo remains one of a better defensive third basemen in the majors. He has peachy range & inherent aptitude for a position, ability to turn the double play, and his arm, though non a strongest as much as, is above-typical.
